"in silence Vocation gets its voice"

This website is about the philosophy of life of the noted writer Frida de Clercq Zubli (1902 –

1985). She wants to call to the pursuit of self-knowledge.

Self-knowledge is obtained by becoming aware of subconscious motives in the human mind. Frida de Clercq Zubli’s philosophy of life is based on this insight and it opens a new perspective on the meaning of human existence.

Frida has described her process of becoming aware in books and writings.

In the book “De Blijde Stilte” (The Joyful Silence), Frida examines the problem of a growing young girl’s increasingly severe deafness; the book was reprinted many times and it was awarded the title of the Best Dutch Youth Novel in 1937. The choice of “De Blijde Stilte” as the title of this website stems from the understanding that physical and mental restrictions need not stand in the way of our happiness in life; between the outer and inner world lies “the joyful silence”, accessible to all.

Within this perspective, Frida’s philosophy is a philosophy of redemption from the world of opposites.

"Darkness has no existence of its own; it is only the absence of Light"

The founder of this philosophy of life lived in the twentieth century.

She was born in the former colonial Dutch East Indies in 1902. After a lonely childhood in the bush, she moved with the whole family to the Netherlands. She studied mathematics and physics at the University of Leiden.
